Understand the Non-Life Volume Measure

Overview

This calculator implements the portfolio-level Non-Life Volume Measure within the Solvency II standard formula.[1] It sums the Article 116 segment volume measures across the Annex II non-life segments.

Input Terms

  • Segment Volume Measure: The Article 116 amount for one Annex II segment after premium volume, reserve volume, and geographical diversification have been combined.[1]
  • Total Non-Life Volume Measure: The Article 116 sum of the Annex II segment volume measures.[1]

Technical Rationale

Article 116 makes non-life volume the scaling factor for the Premium & Reserve Risk requirement because the capital amount must reflect both future claims volatility and reserve inadequacy risk. Segment-level premium, reserve, and geographical-diversification mechanics determine the component amounts before the portfolio sum is formed.

Important Notes

  • Reporting: The volume measure supports the premium and reserve volume fields in the S.26.05.01 non-life underwriting risk reporting view; it is not a standalone SCR component.[2]
